Researching Your Employer
Published: 08 Dec 2015
The best thing that you can do to prepare for a job interview is to make sure that you take the time to research your employer. Not only will it help to give you the confidence you need to get the job but it will also let you know whether it’s the type of company that you would like to work for. There are dozens of resources that you can use to sufficiently search for property jobs and to make sure that potential employers are the right fit.
Understanding the Importance of Interview Research
Think about the last time that you were on a job interview, did the hiring manager ask why you’d be interested in working for their company? This is one of the main reasons as to why taking the time to do some research is essential. You will want to come off as calm, collected, and confident during your job interview and you won’t want to walk in blind. You need to be able to show that you know what the company does and how they do it, along with any other pieces of information that can put you ahead of potential candidates.
Referring to the Job Ad
The job ad has a variety of purposes. Not only does it give you the opportunity to put your name in for hiring but it also provides a lot of information that you may not be able to find elsewhere. You’ll learn about what is expected from the person who is applying for the job, why the company has placed an ad for their job search, and what skills you should have to be considered. You may also be able to find a direct link to the company’s website for more information.
The Company’s Website
The whole point of developing a site for a business is to show customers, business partners, and potential employees what it means to shop with or work for the company. During your job search make sure that you take a look at the company’s site as you can find information pertaining to what the company is all about. There is a whole well of information just waiting for you to go through ranging from the best products that they have to their sales figures from the previous year. Also, it is equally as important to take a look at their social media pages for more details.
Once you’ve been contacted by the company you might have the name of the hiring manager that will be interviewing you. You can always take the more personal approach by researching your interviewer on LinkedIn to find things that they’re interested in or any aspects that you two might have in common. Keep in mind that they may be scouring the internet for information about you as well so ensure that you have all of your privacy settings set properly so that they can have access to all of the information that you want them to have access to. Doing a small amount of research about the people who are interviewing you shows that you’re willing to put in enough work and that you’re actually interested in the position. It can also help to sufficiently prepare you for any questions that they may ask and to develop your own list of questions to help you stand out from the rest of potential employees.
